Privacy settings — what's public vs private

Some things on your profile are public to the world, some are public only to logged-in members, and some are visible only to you. This article maps each.

Always public (no logged-in required)

  • Your profile page (URL, name, photo, title)
  • Your bio (short and long)
  • Your books and episodes
  • Your social links
  • Your verified badge (if granted)
  • Your role badges (if assigned)
  • Your appearance on the Connector Board (if you have invitees)
  • Your appearance on the Leaders directory

Visible only to logged-in members

  • Reader Leaderboard reviews you’ve submitted (visible to other members but not search-engine indexed in the same way)
  • Some event replay pages
  • Specific tier-gated content

Visible only to you (private)

  • Your tier (Free / Starter / Pro / VIP)
  • Your earnings — Pending, Eligible, Paid amounts
  • Your invite link (technically anyone with the link can use it, but it’s not displayed publicly)
  • Your billing details and payment method
  • Your email and password
  • Your activity history

Privacy controls you can adjust

Settings → Privacy includes toggles for:

  • Show my location publicly — disabling hides city/region from your profile (country may still show)
  • Show my birthday publicly — defaults to off; opt in if you’d like community recognition on your day
  • Allow other members to message me — controls whether your contact form is enabled
  • Include me in directory exports — affects whether your profile appears in scraped exports we provide to event organizers

You can't make your profile fully private

The Smile Channel is fundamentally a public platform — that’s the value. You can hide specific fields, but you can’t make your whole profile members-only or invisible. If you need a fully private presence, this isn’t the right tool. (We don’t take it personally.)
