If you’ve decided to leave The Smile Channel entirely, deletion is the path. This article walks through it carefully because it’s irreversible.
Account deletion permanently removes your profile, books, episodes, reviews, and most account data. We can’t restore it later. If you might come back, consider downgrading to Free instead — that preserves everything for free.
Before you delete
Take care of these first:
- Cancel any paid subscription — otherwise you’ll be charged for the next cycle even after deletion
- Withdraw any eligible commissions — earnings can’t be paid out after account deletion
- Save anything you want to keep — request a data export first if you want a copy of your content
- Notify any people who depend on your profile — speakers / authors who linked to your Smile Channel page from elsewhere
How to delete
- Dashboard → Settings → Account
- Scroll to the very bottom — “Delete account” button
- Click it
- Confirm by entering your password
- Confirm again with a typed phrase (“DELETE MY ACCOUNT”)
- Final confirmation
Your account is queued for deletion. You’re logged out immediately.
The 14-day grace period
Deleted accounts enter a 14-day grace period. During that window:
- Your profile is HIDDEN (not visible to anyone)
- You can recover the account by logging in (within the 14 days only)
- If you don’t log in, the account is permanently deleted at day 14
This is intentional — gives you a chance to reconsider, and prevents accidental deletion.
What happens at day 14
- Profile, books, episodes, reviews — deleted
- Earnings history — anonymized but retained for tax records
- Email and password — deleted from active databases
- Backup snapshots — purged within an additional 30 days
Reviews you wrote about other authors
Your authored reviews on other members’ books are removed when your account is deleted. The author’s profile no longer shows your review.
Reviews other authors wrote about your books
These are removed too — your books leave the platform with you.
What about content you spoke at events?
Event recordings where you appeared are owned by the event, not by your profile. They typically remain published. If you want event recordings removed, that’s a separate request to the event team.
Can I really not undo this?
After day 14, no. Within the 14-day grace period, just log in and your account is restored as if nothing happened.
