Data export / GDPR / your right to be forgotten

Under data protection laws (GDPR in the EU, CCPA in California, similar laws elsewhere), you have specific rights about your data. This article covers how we handle them.

Your rights at a glance

  • Right to access — get a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Right to portability — receive that data in a machine-readable format
  • Right to correction — fix inaccurate data
  • Right to deletion — have your data removed
  • Right to restriction — limit how we process your data

Right to access (and portability)

Email privacy@thesmilechannel.com with subject “Data export request”. Within 30 days, we send a JSON or CSV export of:

  • Your profile data (bio, photo, location, links)
  • Your books, episodes, reviews
  • Your earnings and commission history
  • Your activity history
  • Your billing and tier history

The export is in standard formats (JSON or CSV). You can use it to re-import to another service or just keep an archive.

Right to deletion

Two flavors of deletion:

  • Account deletion — your profile is removed but anonymized data may be retained for legal / financial reasons (e.g. tax records, refund history)
  • Full erasure — under GDPR’s “right to be forgotten”, we delete all personally-identifiable data we can legally remove

Email privacy@thesmilechannel.com with the type of deletion you’re requesting. Most requests complete within 30 days. The full process is covered in the next article.

What we can't delete

Some data is required to be retained by law (e.g. financial records for tax purposes). We retain those in anonymized form where possible. The retained data isn’t accessible to platform users — only to authorized administrators for legal compliance.

Right to correction

Most corrections you can make yourself in your dashboard. For corrections you can’t make (e.g. an admin badge that shouldn’t be there, or a commission record that’s wrong), email support and we’ll fix.

Where our privacy policy lives

Visit thesmilechannel.com/privacy/ for the full policy. It covers:

  • What data we collect
  • How we use it
  • Who we share it with (typically: nobody, except our payment processor for billing)
  • How long we retain different categories of data
  • Your rights and how to exercise them
