Birthday display — opt in or out

Some members like having their birthday acknowledged by the community. Others find it intrusive. This article covers the toggle.

Default behavior

By default, your birthday is NOT displayed publicly. Even if you entered your birthday during signup, it stays private unless you explicitly opt in.

Opting in

  1. Dashboard → Settings → Privacy
  2. Toggle “Show my birthday publicly”
  3. Optionally, choose whether to show the year (some opt to show month/day only)
  4. Save

From the next birthday forward, your profile will display the date and may receive community recognition.

What happens when birthday display is on

  • Your birthday appears on your profile (small text in the bio area)
  • On your birthday, a small “🎂 Birthday today” indicator may appear next to your name in directory listings
  • Other members may see you in any birthday-spotlight surfaces

It's a community thing, not a system thing

The Smile Channel doesn’t auto-message other members about your birthday. Any acknowledgment comes from members noticing organically, not from automated outreach. So opting in won’t flood your inbox.

Opting back out

Same path — toggle off. The change is immediate. The platform stops displaying your birthday everywhere within minutes.

Should you opt in?

Members who lean into community usually do. Members focused on professional positioning usually don’t. There’s no platform-level benefit either way — it’s a personal preference.
