Speaking at a Smile Channel event is one of the highest-leverage things a member can do for visibility. This article covers how speakers get selected and what’s involved.
How speakers are chosen
The team curates each event based on:
- Topic fit — does the speaker’s expertise match this event’s theme?
- Member tier — VIPs get priority access (it’s a VIP perk)
- Platform engagement — active members surface more
- Diversity of perspectives — we aim for variety in each event
- Past speaking quality — repeat speakers who delivered well get re-invited
Quarterly speaking slot for VIP members
VIP membership includes a quarterly speaking slot. Once per quarter, you’ll be considered for an upcoming event matching your topic. The team reaches out to confirm timing and slot details.
How non-VIP members can speak
- Build a strong profile with clearly defined speaking topics
- Be active on the platform — engage in reviews, the affiliate program, the Reader Leaderboard
- Build relationships with the team naturally — through PP Client work, podcast appearances, etc.
- If you have a specific topic that fits a known event theme, mention it to support
What event organizers want
Speakers who are easy to work with — confirm quickly, prepare thoroughly, show up early, deliver the time slot they promised. Reliability matters more than reputation.
What you commit to as a speaker
- A 30-60 minute prep call with the event team
- Submission of slide deck (if you’re using slides) 48 hours before
- Joining the event 30 minutes early for tech check
- Speaking your slot, on time
- Staying for Q&A if relevant
What you get from speaking
- The recorded episode added to your profile
- Promotion in event marketing leading up to the event
- Inclusion in event replay materials
- Often, follow-on opportunities (other speakers refer you, attendees become invitees)
