Reading challenges and seasonal events

Beyond the always-on review system, the Reader Leaderboard hosts periodic challenges and seasonal events that members can join for extra recognition.

Annual challenges

  • 50 in 50 — Read 50 books in a year. Members who hit it get a special annual badge.
  • Author of the Month — Each month, one author is highlighted. Members who review at least 2 of their books that month earn a thematic badge.
  • Genre Spotlights — Quarterly themes (e.g. “Q2 is Memoir Quarter”). Reviewing books in that genre during the window earns bonus points.

Seasonal events

  • Summer Reading List — June-August, focus on lighter / vacation reads
  • Author-A-Thon — Annual event where members can publish quickly and get reviewed quickly
  • Year-End Round-Up — December, members submit their top 3 books of the year

How to find current challenges

Visit the Reader Leaderboard public page. Active challenges are pinned at the top with a clear deadline and badge preview.

How challenges work

  1. The team announces the challenge with criteria (e.g. “Read 3 memoirs this quarter”)
  2. You opt in by clicking “Join challenge” on the announcement
  3. Submit qualifying reviews during the window
  4. At the end, the system tallies your participation
  5. Qualifying members earn the challenge badge automatically

Author-A-Thon

The big annual event. Authors publish a new book during the Author-A-Thon window and get committed reviews from the community within 30 days. Combines accelerated publication with active reading. Separate sign-up through the Author-A-Thon landing page each year.

Can I miss a challenge and still join later?

Most challenges are time-bound — once the window closes, the badge is no longer available. The next iteration of the same challenge usually comes around in a year, so there’s always another chance.
