Photos make profiles feel real. This article covers how to upload your headshot and the cover images for your books.
Profile photo
- Dashboard → Profile tab
- Click the circular photo area at the top of the form (or the “Upload photo” button)
- Pick an image from your device
- Crop / position the photo using the editor that appears
- Click Save
Photo specs
- Square format works best (1:1 aspect ratio)
- Minimum 400×400 pixels, ideally 800×800 or larger
- JPG or PNG, under 5MB
- Plain or simple background — busy backgrounds compete with your face
Don't use a logo
A logo is fine for your business profile elsewhere but not for The Smile Channel. The platform is people-first — visitors want to see who you are. Logos make profiles feel anonymous.
Book covers
- Dashboard → Books tab
- Click “Add book” (or edit an existing one)
- In the book form, find the “Cover image” upload field
- Upload your book’s cover JPG or PNG
- Click Save
Book cover specs
- Portrait format (taller than wide), matching your actual book cover
- Minimum 600×900 pixels for crisp display on retina screens
- JPG or PNG, under 5MB
- Use the cover from your publisher / retailer — don’t recreate it
If the upload fails
Common issues:
- File too large — most issues. Compress with a tool like TinyPNG or use “Save for Web” in Photoshop.
- Wrong format — only JPG and PNG are accepted. Convert HEIC files first (most phones can save as JPG instead).
- Connection drop — try a smaller file or a different network.
